The Island of Inisheer

I visited the Island of Inisheer on my tour to the Cliffs of Moher. We took a ferry out to the island and spent around 2-3 hours there exploring. I had no idea what to expect from this trip, as I have never heard about this island, but I was excited to see what it had to offer. We decided to take a tour of the island by horse carriage, which I was also excited about. We heard from our tour guide on the bus that this island depends on tourism, but I didn't realize until I got to the island how true this was. As we started our tour around the island, I noticed that while the island had beautiful landscapes, it felt and looked empty and tired. We made our way through the town and made it to a sunken ship that has been on the shore for years. After this we continued through the town and we got to see some very few livestock still grazing on some lands. I asked our guide of the island, a man who was born and raised in Inisheer, about the livestock and what they provided for the people, either milk or food. He said that they now just graze because the only way the island makes money and or product is through tourism. He expanded on this and talked about how tourism supports this island and keeps it alive. This broadened my idea of all the different parts of Ireland and the different economic statues of the Irish. This also made me think and wonder about how this island survived during covid and how this must have caused economic instability. While there are many booming and lively cities in Ireland there are also some quaint towns that need tourism and support from people. The rest of the tour of the island I really appreciated the scenery and what this island was able to show me. Another thing about this island that was cool to see was that this island was described to be a transport back in time. At this island and the surrounding area, they mainly speak Irish and not english. They also have kept many traditions that might have disappeared in bigger cities. Getting to experience some traditional Irish culture was very cool and interesting, and opened my eyes to a new part of Ireland. After our tour of the island ended, we ate at a pub and had wonderful food. I am very thankful that I got to experience this and see a new part of Ireland.

Some wonderful pictures I took! Also in the pub we ate they had a Texas flag!
