Visiting the Herbert Park Market
With a free Sunday we decided to venture across town to a different area we have not been to yet for a Sunday market. This market is located and held in Herbert park every Sunday. We were unsure what this market held, but went with excitement and empty stomachs. We walked up to the park and immediately saw many tents and people walking around. Something that I first noticed at the market was the demographic. The demographic at the market was a mix of families with children or young adults. This was interesting to notice and to help me learn more about the different people in Dubin. Even after our day at the market we walked outside the park and found ourselves in a very residential area and nicer areas with family type homes. From seeing how many families were at this market and the area we were in, I could tell that we were in a nice neighborhood in Dublin and that can affect these families' health access. Along with walking through the market we stopped and looked at many local vendors. During this I was able to see the different local businesses and different cultures that Dublin offers. There were so many different booths selling such an array of items and helped me get a better idea of Dublin's culture. Something else I was looking forward to and something that was the coolest thing to me was the array of different cuisines the market offered. This market had probably around 12 food trucks/tents of all different types of food. There were Mexican, Italian, Indian, Venezuelan, Greek, Spanish, American, Korean, and even more types of food. Seeing how one market could have such diversity in cuisine was very exciting to me. I come from a small town so I do not always have access to a diverse food selection. We decided to get an array of food selections and got to try three different cuisines. Along with the amazing food and lots of people at this market, one of my favorite parts was the actual park itself. Next to all the local vendors there was a large lawn where there were tons of people lounging, picnicking, and hanging out with their friends and families. We also decided to take our food and sit in the grass and eat and take in the sun rays. We got lucky and had amazing sunny and warm weather, which seemed to bring everyone out to enjoy the market and the weather. This brings up the point of the community among the Dublin people. Something like the nice weather and a market brings together a diverse group of people to try new and diverse things. Seeing the amount of people sitting and enjoying local business and a beautiful park, made me feel the warm community that Dublin has. This strong community feel is something that I think helps the Dublin and Irish people feel connected and supported. This feeling of community among the people of this city benefits all of those in the area. Going to this market was something that was so simple, but showed me a different side of Dublin and the diversity in this community.
We had lamb and falafel wrap, paella, and Korean fried chicken. It was all amazing! Amazing weather and many dogs out walking!
